DIY OR DIE

3717231192_b86697ee9c_b

The DIY or Die event at Urban Outfitters this Sunday was a really great experience, and I finally got a chance to meet other bloggers and see some sweet diy projects. To my fellow DIYers Sarah, Nikki, Jeralyn, Tiffany and Christina, it was amazing to get a chance to work with you and see your work in real time. These photos were taken by the wonderful Michael Vorassi.

ANIMAL APPETITE

Freaked out? I am insanely jealous of sculptor and metal magician Jessica Joselin. Her craftsmanship and undeniable cheekiness makes her work a permanent fixture of the Langoliers mood board. And for those of you think that she just ticky-tacked some brass on bone, think again. You cannot solder bone, so she hand to assemble each joint with bolts and ingenious mechanics. See the brass spherical bearings in the hip joint of that bird? Yeah. On top of all this, she makes her work seem totally effortless, as though these creature came completely metastasized from the REM cycles of Henry Fuseli and slithered into our reality.

BOASTING

Some of my recent vintage scores are pretty sweet, but they could not be more different. The first is my very dreaming dress/skirt made from this dreamy embroidered chiffon. I could get married in this dress, and it only set me back $15. I found it at Backwards Glances, a vintage store with terrible marketing but awesome (and soooo affordable) finds. If you're willing to go an hour outside the city, you can suss out some truly amazing stores.

My second find is a studded lattice bustier. I love bustiers, but it's hard to find a small cup size. This fits perfectly, and if i really want to vamp it up and look like I walked off the set of Bladerunner, maybe I'll wear it with my cage skirt. I don't know how I feel about wearing them together, but really like the idea mixing hard with soft. My kitty seems to like it.

This is will oodles of fun, folks. Cocktails, goody bags, and a sick raffle if you come. For my DIY I'm really doing French knitting as opposed to croquet/crochet, so no need to bring any hooks. Check out more projects from Sarah of BADLOOKING, the lovely 66sick girls, Nikki from Dirty Flaws, and Jeralyn of Ill Wear Any Color As Long As Its Black. I'll be hosting a DIY competition on my blog. Here's the deal:

There will be 60 RSVP spots available, which secures those on the list a seat at one of the limited table spots as well as a Gift Bag that will have DIY materials as well as magazines and the How To Handbook that Urban has created specifically out of our written tutorials. Because these spots are so limited, each of us involved is going to be holding a contest on our own personal blogs. This is what it entails:
SEND ME A PHOTO OF YOUR MOST SUCCESSFUL OR FAVORITE OR EVEN YOUR MOST INTERESTING DO-IT-YOURSELF EXPERIMENT/OUTCOME ALONG WITH A SENTENCE OR TWO ABOUT WHAT DIY MEANS TO YOU, HOW YOU INCORPORATE IT INTO YOUR LIFE, OR EVEN JUST WHAT YOUD LIKE TO LEARN ABOUT FASHION DIY-ING. IF YOU HAVE A BLOG, LINK ME!
By July 5th, we will have our winners picked - the lucky ten, two from each blog, that will have secure front row seats to the NYC DIY Event of the Summer! Leave your entry as a comment, here, on this post, and be sure to tell your friends about it! All five of our blogs will be hosting this contest and we cannot wait to see who gets to join us on July 12th!

LOBBED OFF

Photo 347

New hair. This is what it looks like in the morning. Bed Head is very important to me because I like to keep my morning rituals as lazy as humanly possible.

Now for a happy picture, I'm all dolled up for a night on the town. Even deflated, my hair is fun.

enough to make you wear colors again

Black is fun, but it's also easy. Let's make our world look more like CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS and less like CITIZEN KANE.

RODARTE YARN

Today I found a Rodarte DIY'er's wet dream: hand painted yarn with similar colors as...

This yarn.

My photobooth does not do it justice there are some whites, grays and blacks with the pretties gradation. Got it at the Renegade Fair by McCarren park by Megan of Vagabond Knits. Go.

Do you like my Chewy backpack?

MARKETTTING OF MATTE

So after seeing bleachblack's entry on KO Knock Out matte nail polish, I was totally hooked. I just couldn't justify spending $22 dollars on nail polish, so I did some fishing around I found a totally comparable option. ManGlaze, touted as masculine nail polish for rockers, seems more Hot Topic than Henri Bendel, but it's essentially the same product, AND it's $6.66. Also, they offer a darker gray. It's amazing what marketing can do. On the KO website, they say in the about section: "Just like a pearl is one of a kind, so is KO." I don't think so. Part of me a little saddened for Man Glaze because they didn't corner the market.

Also ZOYA has some decent colors.

Who Wants My Old Apartment?

Okay, it was really, really depressing to move from this apartment. I loved living there. It's right in the Northside of Williamsburg on Bedford Ave. One block from McCarren Park. I lived here with my boyfriend, and I can attest that it's really quite beautiful. HUGE closets. Access to the backyard with a garden/grill. Very Spacious. $2050/mo. Email me at why_yessuh@yahoo.com if you're interested.

MOPEDS

I'm graduating! It was a little hairy for awhile. Also, moved to Greenpoint.

Here's a film I've art directed for my wonder friend/mover Christopher "The Muscle" Sullivan. It's called "Mopeds From Heaven."

About Me

Pammy
I'm a writer and a jewelry designer. I have what has been described as a dark sensibility which I like to transfer into my wardrobe. I'm not trying to look cute or anything; my one fashion goal is to look as much like a cartoon character as possible.
