coats

I've exhausted myself in the quest for the perfect fucking coat. It's infuriating. I want something that doesn't have cheap looking f21 plastic buttons, which eliminates a good amount of options. I tried on a really lovely coat/dress by Lorick last year at press day, but alas, no buyers picked it up. This is one of those dilemmas that make me seriously want to devote more time into sewing and pattern drafting.

A girl can dream, can't she?

This is my ideal coat for winter. dramatic. warm. wool. black. It's all there. giles has great outerwear.

I was thinking of getting the monika coat by cheap monday because the collar looks soo vampira when flipped up, but when flipped down it's a little pilgrimmy, but it's in my price range.

school

For the next few weeks until Dec 19, I'm going to have to make school a priority. That means fewer posts and the like. I'll have to shelf a lot of my DIY projects and my jewelry line until things settle down. I've painted myself into a bit of a corner, and it's time for me to hustle. wish me luck with passing this semester!

Fixer-Uppers

Ebay is pretty brutal, and I'm always out for blood. Funny how some things never seem to drum up the bidding war they should. I bought two jackets, and both need to be taken in. I can't wait till they fit! It's sort of sick how many garments I have in the "to be tailored" list. I don't even try to tailor jackets myself. It's pretty much worth it to take on fixer-uppers. Sometimes they turn out to be my closet staples.

Here's a western blanket jacket I'm in love with. I'm swimming in it, though, and the shoulders are ridiculous.

Here's a smelly Pendleton jacket I'm pretty happy with. I need to get it dry-cleaned and taken in.

halloween

Here's the lone picture of Caleb and I on Halloween, taken by our friend sandor on his camera phone... We went as Sid and Nancy. How awful am I as a blonde?

Patience is a virtue

Top Ten Things I Can't Wait For...

1. American TopShop flagship Store to open...
seriously, how long do I have to wait? They keep pushing it back from September. This is torture because living in NYC makes me hate hate hate hate paying for shipping.

2. T by Alexander Wang
Lower price points from one of my favorite designers. Torture. I need a closet full of good T-shirts. No more of this pilly American Apparel tri-blend horsecrap.

3. Alexander McQueen's Target line...
What? um, what???

4. Next week's Gossip Girl
Okay so, little J is homeless now. Gossip Girl has taken an ill-advised, bogus turn for the worse. A gross guerilla fashion show, Paper and Nylon nod, and a pervy party photog? and still it seems the show got lamer. I can't stress enough now much I anticipate the Jenny-And-Wilds-Out-And-Repents-Her-Hipster-Ways episode. A sad, sad, sad attempt to be the superior teen drama Skins

Leggings of a lesser God

I'm obsessive about tights, and they don't come cheap. I understand why--tights are pretty much the toughest thing to produce industrially.

I'm alright with cheaper proxies, and Urban Outfitters provides versions of some lusty tights.

Knitwear Roundup

It's All Saints Day, and it's getting really nippy outside. Knitwear has been on my mind, and I try to get a lot of inspiration for my next toasty sweater or socks. I've made a round-up of some of my favorite designs from some of my favorite knitwear designers.

1. Sonia Rykiel

Sonia, deemed the "Queen of Knitwear" always comes through with playful knits. I particularly like this mitered stripe dress with the hyperbolic flowers. It's always so feminine with sophistication. I'm in love with this trompe l'oeil jumper from facehunter.

2. Rodarte

These sickeningly talented Pasadena sisters have captured the imagination of every single fashion publication/ editorial photographer I can think of. I've been imitating that wavering, torn-web look in a lot of my jewelry making. Their mohair creations fill me with all kinds of evil, covetous feelings.

3. Pringle of Scotland

Pringle of Scotland is always consistent. I remember when one of their cable sweaters created a frenzy among the knitting blogosphere. Everyone was desperate to know, "HOW CAN I MAKE THIS?" I love this sweater. It's delicate and sweet, but evokes macabre ribcageyness all at the same time.

4. Gudrun & Gudrun

Fair Trade is really important to me and Gudrun & Gundrun is a great model for responsible labor practices. All the wool is sourced from their native Faroe Island (by Norway) and everything is organic and sustainable. Also, everything is handknit, something I really appreciate. It also helps that their designs are very airy and fanciful.

5. Simone Shailes

This Central St. Martins grad has got a really steady fan base already. I love these fat, chunky fringes. Watch out for Simone.

6. Cooperative Designs

London based knitwear designers Dunn and Hagemann produce some of my favorite garmets. I love their tongue-in-cheek sensibility, and these Pantone colors keep everything fresh.

7. Sandra Backlund

Absolutely no knitwear round up is complete without Sandra's designs. She's so freaking good! It's really intimidating for any other knitwear designer. Her garments are so improvisational and organic, and despite all the work that goes into her dresses, they never look over-worked. Always awe-inspiring.

About Me

Pammy
I'm a writer and a jewelry designer. I have what has been described as a dark sensibility which I like to transfer into my wardrobe. I'm not trying to look cute or anything; my one fashion goal is to look as much like a cartoon character as possible.
